I appreciate the concept, but I can’t help but feel that the page is loading and getting “stuck” as I fill out the form. Probably a result of the many top bar-style page loaders, but still feels a bit awkward.

Yep, that progress bar stuck to the top of the window is synonymous with a page load especially now that mobile browsers have it as a native loading indicator now.

Seeing it go backwards is even worse.

Also it literally makes people take their eyes off the form they're filling out to glance at the top of the screen where the bar is bouncing around, giving a nice distraction for you to stop filling it out.

I wonder if making the submit button fill up might address this issue.

I fully agree. Perhaps a circular icon that fills up a full 360 degrees next to the submit button will solve this.

I kinda think it's neat, but I can't see any UX person in my team approving that, nor do I see this passing accessibly tests.

Can't really imagine a use case for this but looking through the code it looks a bit simplistic:

- Only checks for non-empty fields and not valid fields - What use is a progress bar if the progress is invalid? - Seems like it would only work with text inputs (No radio/check/select etc.)

For multi-page forms this might be useful, but otherwise seems distracting IMO
