Why piracy can (still) be justified

Such good citizenship has already paid for life+70 years retroactive copyright and anti-circumvention laws. Keep it up, and maybe they'll finally have enough lobbying power to make any VCR-equivalent illegal. There have already been attempts to require TV screens only display "authorized" content.
