UW Madison neglected to warn the public when a researcher got infected with H5N1

In 2019 a scientist got infected with a lab created Bird Flu virus VN1203HA(N158D/N224K/ Q226L/T318I)/CA04 in a BSL3 lab. But University of Wisconsin-Madison decided to not inform the public or follow proper quarantine procedures.

The virus they were studying was the same same virus that kicked off the 2014 Gain of Function pause. The study created an airborne version of H5N1 avian influenza virus that spreads between ferrets.
