It's always a pleasant surprise to see Plan9 getting some love :)

If you're into plan9, and miss the old 9menu, I'd like to present 8menu! It's written in Go, and uses Fyne for the GUI. It lets you make simple button<-> action toolbars on the fly - https://github.com/donuts-are-good/8menu

I don't think plan 9 ever shipped with something like that. At least, my plan 9 systems don't have it:

    /fd/0:18: 9menu: './9menu' directory entry not found

There's bar(1), http://man.9front.org/1/bar, but that was added in September 2022.

Googling, it looks like you might be referring to the Linux/Unix utility https://github.com/arnoldrobbins/9menu.

it just gives me a warm fuzzy feeling how clearly all of this is written. the kind of thing they could just dump on you in an Operating Systems class and you actually feel like you'd have a chance of implementing it on your own.
