Any smart, dedicated person, armed with an Internet connection, can outperform the average doctor, lawyer, financial advisor etc., if they really care about getting it right. That's because those professionals generally don't really care about getting it right. They care about their income, their schedule, their more profitable clients, and about a million other things. To them, you are mostly a distraction, and at best a cash-fat cow that they can milk, an attitude that is often in conflict with acting in your best interests.
Of course, in principle these people are better in their field than you can ever hope to be, and have forgotten more knowledge than you will ever have. But that doesn't matter if they only put in 10% of their potential, and the entire "consultation" has to be concluded in 15 minutes.
