There have already been 17 other mass shootings with 9+ injured in the US this year[1], I don't think most of them showed up on the HN front page. Is there anything particularly special about this one?

This one happened in Mission District, which is an iconic and one of the somewhat central areas in SF, often frequented by lots of HN userbase living and working in SF.

The difference in this one "having anything particularly special" is kind of like, a random shooting in some less populated state in a suburb most people haven't ever heard of vs. a shooting in Times Squate.

Thanks for the explanation! The location didn't really mean anything to me.

No information beyond the headline yet. I wonder what the motivation was.
