This is pretty good. I've got a 40-year-old graphics book by melvin prueitt which has a beautiful chapter with a gallery dedicated to rendering errors

I guess you can't deep link to a non checked out book any more. Well, look and then return it I guess

I was gonna submit to the gallery until I realized they are looking for unintentional/accidental ones.

Links to a couple of my creations/generations

The best and most nostalgic in my opinion is the classic windows dragging effect https://www.stansgarage.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/Scree...

I'd love a technical explanation about that bug, it was so fun

It looked like the window was just drawn at its new position on each frame, without the previously drawn object being cleared by whatever was responsible for that (compositor, window manager)... I guess it meant that some OS processes crashed while the process drawing the window being dragged was still running.

I also think I remember that this often happened during Windows 98s notorious recoverable crashes, where waiting or mashing Ctrl+Alt+Del would sometimes allow one to kill the rogue program and/or explorer.exe in task Manager, sometimes not.

The more I think about it: I'd love a more knowledgeable explanation too!

Looks like an artwork, I'd order a poster

When I was experimenting with OpenGL the most common glitch was a completely black screen.

I like these kind of old school websites with quirky information

HN hug of death? I don’t see any images.
