> I really don't think there is another position that comes close to software engineering in US in terms of salary/actual hours worked

Plenty of people make more than software engineers on an hourly basis. It's impossible for anyone to work more than 16h/day.

Thats why I said actual hours worked, which implies physical activity that contributes to a product.

Engineers can sit 2 weeks on their asses blocked by stuff and still get paid, all because of the eventual value add when they start coding.

High-End Prostitutes might make the highest money/minute (many charge like $1200/hour, obviously fully tax-free), short of things like pro-football players if you only count the minutes that the game clock is ticking.

There are close to 9000 total hours in a year. Someone who makes $11m a year makes more than that for every hour they're alive. There are thousands of people who make that much money in the US alone.

That's right. Someone's happily paying those $5000 rents in New York, and it's not largely engineers doing so.

Pretty much every high end escort pays their taxes, because they all know not paying them is the dumbest way to get attention.

How exactly it’s reported may be up for debate but they’re certainly not getting away “tax free”.
