SoftBank CEO says AGI will come within 10 years

> Speaking at the SoftBank World corporate conference, Son said he believes AGI will be ten times more intelligent than the sum total of all human intelligence.

> He also introduced the idea of "Artificial Super Intelligence" at the conference which he claimed would be realised in 20 years and would surpass human intelligence by a factor of 10,000.

Yeah, um... I'll take the other side on both those positions.

And I claim that he's pulling those numbers (10x and 10,000x) out of thin air. And if he's doing that, he's probably pulling the dates out of thin air also.

If he's right, though... improving by a factor of 1000 in 10 years means, essentially, doubling in intelligence every year. If it can keep that up for an additional decade or two... that's both impressive and scary. If true, which I don't think it is.

If nothing else, it would make a good science fiction story, with the AI getting noticeably smarter as the story goes on.

And why would anyone care about what a CEO says?
