Abingdon emigré here, happy to +1 that sentiment.

I lived there from the early aughts until 2012.

It's where Sophos is headquartered, too.

I was there from the mid seventies until the early nineties. It was quite a bit smaller when we moved in. The main problem now seems to be the traffic. I'm not sure what you could do about it other than bulldoze the centre.

It's also the location of JET, the Joint European Tokomak!

The Thames in that area is extremely beautiful (having rowed on that stretch and a few neighbouring ones.)
