What's inside this crater in Madagascar?

A nice story, I’ve noticed more teams recruiting crews abroad to do the video work, perhaps that’s always been the case.

It was mentioned that the are used to be forested, but it looks very bare. I think there’s a deeper story that’s been missed.

Fertile soil, water, intense sunshine, wouldn’t one expect tropical forest on the land?

Had it been clear cut and left for dead for decades?
