I never base the tip on food quality, unless it was cold or something.

The server has no control over that, not really fair.

(based on American practices, seems like UK is different in how tips are distributed)

In many places around the world the tip is shared with kitchen staff.

Not in the place where I live, so not applicable.

Generally the kitchen staff is not on server wages in America and do not received a part of the tip.

But yeah, if that's the case for you, go ahead and factor that in.
