A vehicle that no one thought would go electric just did

The vehicle: Toyota's Hilux.

Side note: The US Toyota Tacoma and the Hilux used to be the same truck, but diverged in 1995 and in the mid-2000s the Tacoma got a completely new body.

Misleading title: it's going hybrid, not going electric.

I read another article that labeled it “mild hybrid”, curious to know what that even means? A best as I can tell the electric motor assists the diesel motor for acceleration and drive chain. So are there scenarios where both motors are powering the drive chain at the same time, or have I read it wrong?

Didn't Elon Musk invent 48V? Well done, Toyota! /s

The /s is confusing because it's unclear which part of the statement is meant to be sarcastic.

Audi had a 48 volts system in 2014 https://www.motortrend.com/news/audi-plans-48-volt-car-elect... Tesla "confirmed the intention to introduce a 48V system" early 2023 https://insideevs.com/news/656775/tesla-switch-48v-voltage-s...
