Taxes beat charity hands down. The rise of modern charities in housing, food supply simply mirror the decline in public housing and the welfare state.

The rest of this piece is an apologia for rampant profit and shareholder value. It doesn't begin to actually address the differences between northern European us taxation and civil society, or the USA and Canada.

100%. It beats any and all forms of socialism. This is why Americans are extremely rich and better off than everyone else in the world. Just look at American weapons. It's state of the art and soon to be controlled by AI and autonomous software.
