Oddly I haven't yet needed to work offline in my 12 year career as a software dev. But then again it's not common for internet to go away where I live.

Usually I only work on my laptop when I travel.

When I travel there's not always reliable internet.

Otherwise I use my PC at home.

A laptop that needs internet is not a great portable.

Indeed, the only time I'd use my laptop is because I'm offline or out and about. There's no need to use a laptop if I'm at home, since, like you, I have a desktop.
