What if singularities do not exist?

An aspect of this belief is that matter/energy doesn’t just warp spacetime, it’s creating it. I feel like this could explain why at large distances, galaxies are moving away from each other (“dark energy”).. if space is sort of piling up in those empty areas it would effectively push galaxies away from each other.
I’m a total amateur so I’m probably wrong.
I suspect Wolfram is on the right track but he seems to be approaching from a similar angle as string theory: trying to craft a perfect beautiful theory from the ground up.. that ends up being able to describe an infinite number of possible universes.
I think if some of the ideas he was exploring was developed in a more pragmatic way, by trying to graft some aspects of it onto existing theories, in what will probably be a much uglier and messier theory, we might make some progress.
What's interesting about Kerr's work here is that he is arguing that singularities aren't the solution even purely within GR. If he's right, we can do away with singularities even before we figure out how gravity works at the quantum level. It'd be a pretty significant coup vs. the current line of thinking.
It's all well above my level of understanding, but Kerr is the man who solved the field equation in a way that predicted spinning black holes, long before we had discovered any, so it seems feasible to me he could be right.
