Sometimes spending 15 minutes on a problem in the evening saves multiples of that time if the task is delayed. Let employers and salaried workers navigate the tradeoffs of being on call.

How might the workers navigate those tradeoffs today?

Since the labor market is competitive, they will be paid more in jobs where they are on call in the evenings, other things being equal. They can trade free evenings for higher pay.
