Open-Source Obsidian Alternative

GitHub sync, but not git sync.

Appears to be no way to collaborate on one or more folder trees of markdown with your team(s). Warns off of using vaults on anything but iCloud.

Home page suggests calendar sync for Google / Apple, while docs show readonly, but docs also add Outlook (via Microsoft's ability to publish a .ics URL).

Dev tools sync is such a good idea that I was ready to buy this for 50+ people even at $7/month, but lack of vaults backed by git repos is a deal-breaker.

// Fingers crossed that someday, devs considering the large U.S. market of employed devs (devs with a company that pays for things) may realize 85% of dev employers are using M365, not Google, things like calendars or synced storage can leverage "Sign in with Microsoft" instead of needing to deal with SSO, or many may have OneDrive for Business to sync from instead of iCloud, Dropbox, Google Drive, or other usual suspects. (But for Markdown source files, GitHub repos are even better.)

Sure, Obsidian is not open source, so if that's where you draw the line, fine.

But otherwise, Obsidian can be synced quite nicely whichever way you want (I use SyncThing personally), and the Obsidian developers actively encourage you to do so, even if that means they don't get your subscription money.

As for extending its functionality, plugins are really powerful, approachable and in general a joy to write (I wrote one for my private use, using the JS framework I know and not the one suggested by Obsidian, and it still works wonderful, I use it almost every day).

I really love Obsidian, matching its feature set will be no easy task for an open source project.

If a post is titled "obsidian alternative" I would expect to see some pros/cons vs Obsidian. Help us understand why we'd want to migrate to this new ecosystem if we already like obsidian. (Also, seconding terratta's comment re: M365)

Do they plan on offering an extensions marketplace like obsidian and vscode?

Only tested the mobile app, the design is heavily inspired by things3 and I see no option for a graph which is one of the things obsidian is most famous for.
