Ask HN: Tips for iOS ASO?

I just launched my first iOS app (an app to track and discover books) on the App Store as a public beta.

What's worked for you in terms of app store optimization?

I've personally almost never discovered an app through the App Store itself, so I'm skeptical, but several friends have sworn by it as a growth channel.
