The Definitive Guide To Facebook For Musicians (and anyone using Facebook Pages)

Off topic suggestion: go easy on the ads on your website, I got irritated by all the movement in the sidebar.
One thing I noticed missing is how frequently is too frequently to post. We started queuing up 8 posts a day at one point, one every three hours, and found that our Edgerank went down, and we got some unLikes. You might add some info about how much is too much to post.
This is also a bit different, since we're not a band, but we found that we got a higher response when posting content relevant to bands than we get when we post to consumers. It could be that we have a lot more musicians than regular music listeners, or it could be that our most engaged fans are the musicians. It might be worthwhile to give bands a "test plan" that will help them narrow down who, out of all of their fans, they should target the most.
So yeah, I didn't want to get too specific with what not to do, because I feel like things change so quickly on facebook. Also, I don't really don't know the # what's a good/bad frequency. I think in general it's best to go at least a few hours in between posts, but at the same time if it's awesome, timely content, then you should post it regardless.
And yeah, the rules are certainly different for brands as it is for bands. In fact, it's different from band-to-band: how loyal your fans are, genres and their cultural norms, age/demo of fans, how "hot" the band is, etc. I feel like if Bieber or Gaga or Amanda Palmer or Bob Dylan were to post a status update a minute, they could get away with it because their fans would eat it up regardless.
Long way of saying, I don't really know the answer!
