Ask HN: Good Microscope for Curious Kid?

My 8yo kid has been asking for a microscope for a while. If I get him something like the Nat Geo microscope marketed at kids, is it actually going to be decent or is it going to be frustrating? What else would you recommend that is easy to use but a kid can grow into?

Thanks in advance!
