YouTube plays out hours long unskipable ads to adblock users

It's hard to judge if this is a bug (given users who've experienced this as such) or intentional.

Someone in that thread says Youtube confirmed they were doing this but when finding a source[1] statement Google don't directly acknowledge this but use language about having launched an effort to urge viewers to allow ads or buy Premium, whatever they may mean by that.

I hop between Opera and Firefox both with addblockers and happily continue to never see an ad on the Internet.

I think trying to force ads on adblock users is a bit like if someone had tried to bring back pop-ups.

Excellent way to push users to other streaming platforms.

Kick added support for live rewind recently. I suspect it’s only a matter of time before another platform starts to really compete with YouTube.

The YouTube player is unironically their greatest feature for me (especially for live video). But I’m also not a huge fan of their algorithm. I use it, but only because they make it so user hostile NOT to use it.

I love their algo with no personalization (i.e. idle browsing via Invidious).

Yeah it fails a lot, but I can click through to YT.

I've had this happen to me on mobile safari. I now use Brave and YT has no ads other than the content creator's.

This looks like a bug, not a feature.
