I have unironically begun referring to today's US Republican party as a cult, because it's one of the very few ways that can explain the profusion of contradictory statements and double-standards.
The true rule is "Dear Leader is ultimately right and we deserve to get what we want." Everything else is just a... a strategic insincerity.
