Love this, I've been building out a simulated Nokia 3310 for a story, will definitely integrate the cracked screen look to it.

What is accessible about a background that does not differ significantly in contrast from the text color?

See https://www.w3.org/WAI/WCAG22/Understanding/contrast-minimum

"The intent of this success criterion is to provide enough contrast between text and its background, so that it can be read by people with moderately low vision or impaired contrast perception, without the use of contrast-enhancing assistive technology."

Not sure what you mean - the text is #443c27 and the background is #f1f1f1, so it passes AAA compliance with 9.68 contrast?
