Ignoring all the AI submissions, this is a lovely little site. Reminds me of the early 2010's internet

They should also reject duplicates and probably rate limit uploads...

why, it just helps with the training data the more images they get so why limit it? plus, dupes are like the cops asking the same question multiple times to see if the results change

I feel like our AI overlords could come up with captions that are less pablum. Need to turn up the edgy dial or something. The cheezburger internet cat phenomenon wasn't just pictures of cats, there was real humor.

I'm still chuckling about that "roast user based on their HN profile and comment history" bot. I know it works.

Too much generative AI. No thanks

To be fair to the site, anyone can upload and it looks like those AI photos are recent submissions (may even be a HN user). If you scroll just 3 rows down it's all dumb fluffballs

Lol, someone's generating images from this thread.

Hi, author here!

This project was intended for just friends and family so the implementation was quite naive (obviously...lol). The project is just using OpenAI's omni-moderation-latest model for content moderation, and a simple prompt for cat detection using gpt-4o-mini.

Thanks to everyone who shared pics of their cats <3

Are you the author? Are you filtering the uploads before they are visible?

not the author but was told uploads are filtered before visible

what are they filtering for then, because there's plenty of non-cat images up there making fun of the AI while the AI happily accepts it

The uploads do not appear to be filtered by a human. The AI was pretty easy to persuade.

For a moment I wondered whether it was the old joke site onlycat5.com

Great idea, love it.

Moderation is good, indeed it's very hard to upload anything other than a cat picture. Descriptions are also on point.

One suggestion: Please fix the voting system, at first I was excited how well my cat does but turns out it's stupidly easy to cheat and for me - it defeats the purpose. Also, I would love a leaderboard of the best cat pictures out there.

Thanks for the feedback and for posting your cat! <3

There were a few reasons I implemented the likes the way I did. Partially because the implementation is simpler, but also because I wanted to avoid any sort of competitive nature that social media tends to have. The button was originally intended to just be there to spam for fun and to make the app more interactive. I also never expected more than like 5 people to ever see this app so I wasn’t really thinking in terms of how it would scale to more users haha.

I definitely see your point and will keep your ideas in mind for future iterations! Thanks again :)

Reminds me of I Can Has Cheezburger https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Can_Has_Cheezburger%3F

Amazing… Best cat site since Bonsai Kitten. Excellent use of modern AI to support human joy!

Need more filtering when uploads. Otherwise, peoples are going to start uploading po*ns.

There's an AI system checking for cat content in the submissions. I assume it's told not to accept lewd photos, but who knows.

I’m impressed. I tried to upload lots of non-cats and it didn’t work.

Awesome. Just finished submitting my chunky cat there!

thanks for sharing your chunky cat <3

Get rid of the AI and you’ve got a great site

you need a .com if you want exclusively boomers and gen x-ers to find your website by a search engine after they forget where they previously found your website /s

I saw your upload (or the one you're referencing), thanks for the rapid ruin if you did that

not aware of what you are referencing, only talking about the gg tld
