Smalltalk: The Software Industry's Greatest Failure

I always wondered why "the entire software industry" is a failure. Now we know it was because variables in Smalltalk are not first-class objects (plus some other essential issues). The comment section of the post is revealing as well; the author responds to every pushback with insults. Well then.

Strange that "the software crisis" preceded Smalltalk.

It even preceded "software".

This is an ill-informed rant.

The key idea is that software dev sucks for you today, because Smalltalk wasn't good.

The problem with Smalltalk was always the pride and ego of the leaders of their community

So there were no problems with the technology?

So "the pride and ego" was grander than any other tech leaders?
