It is the purpose that matters the most. Your reply in comments make me feel your primary goal is to build a portfolio of side projects to get hired. I will suggest you to do different kinds of side projects that reflects your qualities like creativity, designing skills, technical skills, writing skills, etc. I believe 2-3 great projects will be more beneficial that 5-10 average projects. Do different kinds of projects using technologies that are popular in startup ecosystem.

You should vary per epoch (e.g. per year). This way you can gain experience in both. Scale appropriately with time and # projects.
