I think the political landscape is too divided and not recognizing that actually makes you gullible. These people don't need to chase re-election individually as much as they just need to convince the populus to vote for their party

You’re just rephrasing the problem and pretending that it makes your point for you. The parties aren’t magical hydras, they’re made of people running mostly their own campaigns and when they mess up badly states flip. See: Doug Jones in Alabama.

You’re also missing the entire dimension of primaries in which there’s intra-party competition. Honestly you’re missing more or less everything.
