The problem is coupling the light source with the fan. Ceiling fans should not supply light. Period. As I said in another comment, in other countries, you have separate fixtures for these. No one buys a fan with light fixtures. It's stupid.

It’s not stupid. The combo is very nice and convenient. I like the combo, just not the coupling of power. Light fan combos have been around forever and have worked fine for many decades.

It's convenient if you like a light overhead. But if you've lived in places where the light is more at an angle (top of a wall, pointing down at an angle), you won't want to go back.

Reading lamps don't exist in those places.

I have both in the same room and use them for different purposes.

I guess they exist, but living in different states, I've yet to find an apartment/house that has light fixtures (pointing downwards at an angle) on a wall.

Heck, you could loosen the "angle" part - I still haven't found one.

I mean, sure, you can always wire it.
