So far, there is no confirmation other than this Hacker News post. A Wikipedia editor is reverting additions of the news to his biography page until this confirmation arrives.
Wikipedia still does not confirm it (2026/10/07). Further the name used in this OP, "Mark Stevens", does not match his birth name as listed on Wikipedia, "Mark Stephens". Another reply to your question links to an obituary where what details there are seem correct, but there are scant details.
