Hmm. I feel that "male mosquitoes are pollinators" and the claims being thrown around of "mosquito eradication would have no impact on the ecosystem" do not match up. Surely losing many, many millions of pollinators would have some kind of impact? Even disregarding impact on the species that eat them.

The mosquitoes in question are invasive species in most of the world; there are native species that will build their populations back up. And the other ones don't spread human diseases.

This isn't DDT. It's selective killing of a handful of species when there are huge numbers of other species, native to the area, that can fill the same ecological niche but without the risk to human health.

I hear you, but there's a difference between eradicating an invasive species and trying to fully exterminate the species entirely, which is what a lot of the discussion in this thread has been about.
