Music and movies can be ripped day 1, and it hasn't done a whole lot.

There is not much goodwill in the world left towards Sony. They have screwed their customers over repeatedly (removal of PS3 Linux, PC spyware, removal of physical disks, banning arbitrary users online etc.), which makes the moral case for Sony piracy more ambiguous.

The music and movie streaming paradigm was developed partly to combat piracy, by making it more convenient to stream legally.

Movie situation is terrible these days. You need to maintain $100/mo of services to cover your bases and you are still told its only available for a $3.99 4 day digital "rent" which feels like worse terms than what blockbuster was offering.

That’s pretty cheap, a new release blockbuster movie cost $3.79 - in 1999! And you had to drive there, and drive back to return it, and could only borrow what they had in stock, and they charged you fees if you forgot.

Basic cable (with 3 minutes of commercials every 10 minutes) plus HBO was like $80-100 adjusted for inflation. Now you can get a HBO/Disney/Hulu bundle, with no ads, for $35/month and watch anything in their entire catalogue instantly.

Truly amazing times

New spider man movie is being rented for $25 now. Prices just keep moving with no real competition. Used to be the grocery store had a bin of older dvds for a dollar each.

It was never about convenience. I will always steal from Netflix and distribute their “content”
