What exactly is streaming rights for Xbox?

- I don't buy the game, I pay a cloud rental fee and can play so long as my membership is active? Unlimited hours?

- I buy the game, but don't have to use up hard drive space?

- So long as I have an Xbox streaming account, I could stream on my PC? A tablet?

>What exactly is streaming rights for Xbox

It means it won't be available on Geforce Now, Netflix, or Amazon Luna

I recall when you could add your own Steam account to GeForce Play so that you could play your library. That was a good service.

you can still add it, thats the main use actually.

Except in some cases, you just can't. Somehow publishers are the ones that decide which games from your Steam library you can launch on PC rented from NVidia.

That's the point of the whole article

"Xbox has secured exclusive GTA 6 streaming rights" not Geforce Now

Previously you could play all the games you "own" on Steam, because in layman vernacular, you own the game and however you play it is up to you. Then lawyers got involved and somehow Geforce Now was meaningfully different than streaming from your own computer for the same game that you've already purchased and are only playing one instance of at any given time.

This is entirely separate from the article.

That's how actually Geforce Now works. The point with this exclusivity that even if you have GTAVI in your library it won't work there.

I have 3k games on my Steam account and 1/3 of them is supported by Geforce Now

There are still services like that where you basically rent a gaming PC for streaming, like Shadow PC or AirGPU.
