Homebrew is rushing to drop support for Intel Macs despite the fact Intel Macs received a major version of macOS from Apple only 12 months ago. Check out MacPorts. It was the original popular package manager for macOS, and it supports Macs going all the way back to Leopard. It has a ton of packages, and the maintainers are very responsive to requests and bug reports in my experience.
