yeah, if n=1 then there's no distinguishing it from natural phenomena. regardless of its accuracy, the wanton hoovering up of data is still in full force - that was the whole motivation behind the 'big data' fad (ie when MBAs read a Nate Silver article en masse and believed stats could solve everything)
