Can anyone with a level political head unwrap this?

Yes I know Trump is a deranged psychopath who fires from the hip. I'm looking for someone who can handle the challenge of steel manning the move. The political swamp has gotten so dense I feel like I am suffocating.

At what point does steelmanning become whitewashing? There's no particularly nuance as to why the US is doing this.

I don't think it should be controversial. US doesn't recognize ICC. There is possibility that ICC goes after Americans or American allies. This is organized work against American interests -> sanctions.

I don't see what Americans lose because of those sanctions but I see what they gain. I am surprised it took them so long to make tbh.
