I think that hiring process is what makes that entire team great and hum in such harmony. At the very least, going through that rigorous writing process helps you prepare for other applications or prepare materials for future applications with other companies. Hiring is hard. I have heard Bryan Cantrill say something that has also been true in my experience, along the lines of: Some of my biggest career mistakes were related to hiring.

The company is not very big and has a lot of very talented people. The vibe is probably similar to what big tech used to be in the early 2000s

I'm pretty sure most people getting in are not getting in through classic website application, but by word of mouth, or knowing somebody who's in etc.

It's the type of company where you probably know before applying if you belong or not.

We don't do referrals -- everyone applies through the same front door.

I looked at applying there way back in 2020 and bounced off the application because it seemed like more work than I had time for.
