If someone crashes into a bus stop at 75 mph and kills a family, who gets sentenced to jail?

That is not relevant to the story. Tragic as it is, it's certainly not established policy.

It really is though. If you’re sober you can pretty much kill people with your car.

Probably no one. I don't think anyone was jailed for Uber's autonomous car running someone over. The safety driver who was in the car watching The Voice on her phone instead of the road got probation. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2023/aug/01/uber-self...

That said Waymo has a pretty good safety record and Uber's program got shut down after the above.

This is a hard question - but less overall deaths is more important than the correct punishment.
