I've been using hibernate on Windows for the last... 15 years? And I don't remember ever having a problem. Lenovo and HP laptops.
It is easier to verify that there are no problems on Apple hardware. Windows and Linux run the same for me, you need good hardware to run well. Usabiltity and taste is a different question.
