i'm shocked at such behavior from the only democracy in the middle east.

Careful, the definition of antisemitism is: to say that a single israeli politician is corrupt is a racist attack against every member of the jewish community in every country.

It's way beyond a single politician, and it's way beyond corruption. Several of their politicians are on file calling for outright genocide and displacement. Let's not forget that Pew poll that showed that 34% of israelis say that the IDF "did not go far enough" in what they did in Gaza.

Israel, USA both seem to be suffering from exposure.

I watched a talk today where what we call democracy would not so by the Greek philosophers, who would call what we have Aristocracies, because they defined democracy in the direct sense rather than the celebration of annual voting for representatives.

At the core is rule by the will of the people, which we seem to be rather far from at the moment

Even Russia and China have "elections". I don't think anyone would confuse them with a democracy just because they have electios

Similarly, it can be argued that the US, even with elections, is closer to a monarchy/aristocracy than democracy, in the sense that the will of the people defines (or not) our governance.

A few more election cycles and they will be a 'democracy' like Lebanon or Egypt.

It will be interesting to see if the upcoming elections actually happen.

Cyprus is conventionally Europe.

How is Cyprus in the Middle East? It's either Greece, Turkish or both depending on who you ask.

I would've said no, confidently but I googled it just now and think many people do consider it middle east.

So now I don't know anymore.
