So much of what you list is about controlling employees, it's just depressing. I would imagine the market wants surveillance of employees too?

There's a very, very big difference between controlling employees working on company laptops during company working hours earning a company salary, and controlling private citizens. Do whatever you like on your private devices on your own time.

Enterprise browsers are not like MDM that take over the entire machine. A contractor on BYOD can install a consumer browser and an enterprise browser side-by-side on his machine, using the enterprise browser (with its controls) for the contracting project and the consumer browser (free and open) for personal ends.

There is a difference, sure. We're only talking about at work here, true. But we spend a lot of our time at work, often the majority of our waking hours, and the way information technology sets up the context for us to have even less autonomy or room to breathe at work all the time remains depressing to me, as does that one of the largest or at least most prominent open source-bsaed companies finds the best sustainable business model to be facilitating that. It to me feels like just one more indicator (to be sure, the latest of many many) that the romantic dreams of open source are over.

Easy way of handling private and work profiles at the same time parallel is a good start.

Given that the initial market is Europe, where "surveillance of employees" has pretty strong legal limits, the answer to this is actually no! You can still report security relevant information and events of course, within reason.

interesting, thanks!
