Shopify seems to be helping paper over that. I've recently gotten into a hobby of 3d printer modifications (prints are great, but I also seem to like modifying and repairing just as much), and I've been broadening my online shopping horizons as a result. Quite a few "standalone" stores online are linked into Shopify.
