There's been viable alternatives to Office for many years, and they're not just approaching good enough they're battle-tested and rock-solid and feature-rich.

But why would Microsoft respond? If you buy a new laptop or desktop it will likely be running Windows and that gives them many opportunities to promote and bundle their software. If you're building a business you will only be choosing between Microsoft and Google's office suites because you're entrenched in their ecosystems.
