I know how they work. I simply think they should not exist at all. Home is a property a thing. It is not a member.
There is no need for "HOA owned and maintained street". You do not need HOA to maintain streets.

But that use case is in the extreme minority (rural development) compared to the common HOA usage (dense large suburban developments).
