Grigiri Perelman, who was awarded the Fields Medal, notoriously refused the prise because he stated no other recognition was needed.

It's great there's an exception, but that isn't the point, they're talking about people who get paychecks as mathematicians. BTW what did Grigori do for a paycheck?
