Ah, so again a solution was found which continues to allow future crimes to be planned like a business case with basic cost/benefit math.

Why wasn't this prosecuted with jail-sentences like Dieselgate?

Because you can’t get jail sentences by suing the gestalt of a company for misleading people on privacy. To put someone in jail, you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that specific person committed a specific crime, and each specific person can argue that it was everyone else’s fault.

Because putting people in jail costs the state money. Frivolous shakedowns of giant corporations gets the state billions of dollars.
