Let me guess. USA?

For the land of the free and home of the brave ... it's incredible what you let happen.

There's 330 million people here. You, being not from here, only find out about what's exceptional, not what's normal. This case made the news because of how bad it is. It this was common, it wouldn't have made the news.

Lots of people are from many different places where this kind of shit never happens. Yet it keeps happening in America.

You think instances of bad policing and prosecuting only happens in the US? For real?

Again, you're being presented with this article because it is an exceptional occurrence. If it wasn't, we wouldn't be discussing it.

The instance might be exceptional, but the steady torrent of different varities of shit coming out of the USA is not exceptional. It's incredible.

And don't me wrong, I'm certain there are millions of good people in the USA. But the assholes are in the ascendancy. Obviously.

You're glossing over the part where this approach brought their message into mainstream culture. If they took the money and dropped the message, sure. The history doesn't really support the narrative, though.

Yes, it would have been harder for them not to be major hypocrites and still get their message across.

But the idea that they needed to stay with the Sony owned music label and not move to an independent one is kind of silly.

Your mind seems made up, but it’s hard to imagine we’d even be having this conversation if, say, Zack had stayed on Victory putting out hardcore records.

He just wouldn’t be a part of the zeitgeist in the same way. There’s an argument that a lot of what we’re experiencing now is a backlash against how well it worked. “the machine” is defending itself.

Can you imagine the president of the US using the term “Woke”, without RATM, and RATM without Sony behind them? They didn’t coin it obviously, but certainly gave it a huge boost.

It’s like a startup, the same product with a better distribution mechanic often wins.

I love indie labels, btw. But the judgment and indictment of someone that chooses a different path is unnecessary.

Let's not pretend this is an every day occurrence that happens to everyone. It's a one-off oddball situation. I'm not even sure we have all the details considering the sources.

You need to get off the internet immediately--especially reddit. Normal people wake up in the morning, put their clothes on, go to work, and come home. You're reading about people who are not the normal everyman and applying it to all persons (and all of the USA). Quit doing that.
