One of my favorite youtube philosophers, whose channel is called "no nonsense spirituality", has pointed out that there are really only a very small number of humans who value truth above companionship or safety or happiness to the point that they are actually able to "face the void" by rejecting all religion and looking straight at the cold indifference of the world. The stories and shared tribes we have built enable us to gel together as people and survive, and it's deeply human for us to seek that. Being completely truthful with ourselves is a poor survival strategy, and only a small number will ever be able to do that. And they will not be happier for it.
