I assume this did not happen in South America... I lost my wallet in the park in the small city I live, and 30 minutes later I had 5 online purchases with my CC and needless to say the wallet, the cash or the documents never appeared again.
My young (12?) son left his wallet in a pack pack near the bus stop while he and his friends ran around. He had a student debit card which was taken and used to buy cigarettes. A useful lesson in caution.
