Show HN: Tributary – Discover who influenced your favorite musicians

tributary.music uses artists' own accounts & critics' writing to determine an artist's influences. It pairs one song from the artist with one from the influence so you can directly hear similarities, differences, and how the sound evolved.

I had been in a bit of a funk finding new music to listen to. Spotify's Discover Weekly lost its charm for me a while ago. This led me to start digging into the influences of some of my favorite artists to see if I'd like their music too. I did. I then wanted to scale that so it wasn't so much manual work. Claude & ChatGPT did most of the heavy lifting around finding & summarizing articles and influences. I found the result compelling so I wanted to publish and share it.

I've now found a few new artists in my rotation. I can't believe I never listened to Kraftwerk! I found them via MGMT -> Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark -> Kraftwerk.

I hope you can find some interesting music too.
